Kestrel reports that White Deer Park is just on the other side of town, but as Fox leads the animals through the dark and deserted streets, a terrible thunderstorm forces them to seek shelter in a church. The next morning, the storm is over, but the church fills up with wedding guests before the animals can make a run for it. The organ music and the excited people frighten the animals, who flee in all directions. Inside the church, chaos reigns. Outside and in safety, the animals realise that they have lost sight of each other during the dramatic escape. And so close to their destination.
