Travailleuses...

Society/Everyday life, France/China 2014

Women textile workers talk to six directors in five different countries about the representation of their work. Who are they? Why do they do this job? What matters most is how each of them sees and thinks about herself. The women talk about their desires, their need for independence, for the rest, they describe their life at work, the difficulties, the hardship, the need to work, the desires, the regrets... Often, they are similar, in their gestures attached to the machines, but also in their history, the need for money, some are afraid, others rebel, refuse. What is also important is the way in which each of the film-makers, in their own country, sees these women at work. The crossroads of views are made according to the images and words, with no other guide than the interplay of distance and proximity, in the recomposed space of factories and workshops, of the relationship of bodies to machines, to work.
