An anachronistic colossus made of 50 tons of bronze stands in Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin. With his fist raised, Ernst Thälmann, who was declared a hero in the GDR, proclaims the victory of communism and has been a source of controversy for decades. Too heavy, too massive for the 1993 decision to demolish it, the monument survived the political upheavals - a relic, an heirloom: politically and artistically controversial from time immemorial. In KOPF FAUST FAHNE - PERSPEKTIVEN AUF DAS THÄLMANNDENKMAL, the artist Betina Kuntzsch rediscovers the monument. In ten essayistic short films, she forms a kind of kaleidoscope of her own memories, those of friends, schoolmates, residents and users. In animations, she combines historical photographs, documents, and film clips from various archives. The short film compilation KOPF FAUST FAHNE - PERSPEKTIVEN AUF DAS THÄLMANNDENKMAL is part of the art project VOM SOCKEL DENKEN for the artistic commentary on the Ernst Thälmann Monument.
